Biography

Ann M. Alongi, C.E.O. & Founder of ICS, has been opening new and emerging markets for Start-Ups to Fortune 500 companies for the past three decades.  A pioneer in emerging markets, Ann was one of the first American women to open a start-up business in the former Soviet Union in the early 1990’s during “Perestroika”, literally, the restructuring of the Soviet political and economic system.  She established the first video-conferencing public room for western companies to communicate, in real time, with their home offices around the globe as they themselves were establishing businesses in Russia, in most cases, for the first time.

While still in Moscow, Ann became interested in and began working with the pioneers of the mobile wireless technology industry while still in its infancy.  Through an agreement with AT&T/Lucent Technologies, who were interested in the Russian video-conferencing market, she agreed to position Lucent as the premier supplier of video conferencing services and systems throughout Russia and the CIS. She was then invited to join Motorola who at the time owned 56% of the mobile wireless infrastructure market in Russia.  “It was an exciting time for us all”, recalls Ann.  “As wireless networks were being built and expanded issues such as echo cancellation, HLR technology and security were just being developed.  Today, these issues and many others are standard and assumed.”

In the late 1990’s, Ann was offered a challenge from Motorola to relocate to South Africa to work on the new third Operator Network license.  Her job was to position Motorola as the vendor of choice for US$165 million of mobile wireless infrastructure for the rollout of a new nationwide mobile network.  Ann accepted the challenge which began her passion not only for bringing state-of-the-art wireless technology to Sub-Saharan Africa, but for Africa itself.  Over the years Ann has been sought out by companies for her ability to position advanced technology into the Sub-Saharan African market and generate new revenue through her wide network of senior-level decision makers.  Ann commented, “I think I fell in love with Africa a long time ago.  There is so much opportunity for western companies and, yes, it has become my passion to open this extraordinary market to the world.  Let’s talk.”

Ann holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management from Boston College, Chestnut Hill, MA, USA, and IT certifications from Basingstoke College of Technology, Basingstoke, Hampshire, United Kingdom.
